Glad for the rain. Crazy that in a few hours we got more rain than the whole month of July. Had let up to an occasional drizzle by 5am though. Brought the gnats out by the billions.
Had one off mile toward end where I slowed on a rolling section trying to down a gel & drink some water. Otherwise pretty even paced to negative splits. Think the 3 days off last week help that.

I just can't get in a groove. Doesn't help that 3 weeks in and I'm working extra days already. This will be a minimum 12 day stretch.

I'm sleeping pretty good, just at the wrong times. Today I slept 10+ hrs. Amber woke me up 10 min before I usually leave for work. She'd been at her parents & didn't know I was still out cold. Guess my phone crashed so no alarm. Technology.

I need to get in a schedule. It's near impossible but I gotta do it. Mostly so I can see my family. Plus I can get stuff done around the house.

My luck I'll get in a good groove & I'll get switched back to my old work schedule. Which I wouldn't complain about. A whole lot less OT & I know my work schedule years in advance out side of a few coverage OT days. The current schedule I don't know till Wednesday night if I have to work on the weekend. Makes pre registering for a race a waste of time.

I guess I need to force myself to workout in the AM my PM. I've never been a workout after work guy. Mostly because of the 12 hour shifts. Time to convert to how most "normal" people get it done.

ScottyDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08141316754281775282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13191622.post-84205807253281960262012-07-19T01:22:00.001-04:002012-07-19T01:22:02.852-04:00Another reason never to drive to work ever again

Super tired & its stupid hot so I decided to drive to work. About 100 meters from where the greenways pops out onto fr150 (my normal ride to work) I hit a damn cow. By time I made contact I was almost stopped in the left lane. It ran toward me. Stupid cow no wonder they get ate.

Car not too bad. Will need new passenger side headlight & front quarter panel. Hopefully the two farmers quit arguing about who owns the cow & takes responsibility. I'll find out in am I guess. A quick online search headlight $185 , unpainted quarter panel $385. Crap.

100f at midnight at work. 100+ for next 10 days, all of which I have to work. Crap.

Didn't run tonight because I fell asleep on the couch after I woke up to run. Guess ill have to start running in am or on treadmill till it cools a bit.

ScottyDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08141316754281775282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13191622.post-47622974648412321752012-07-15T23:59:00.001-04:002012-07-15T23:59:58.702-04:00Sunday "long" run

I've gotten away from runs longer than 10 miles in the last couple of months. Figure I should get back to weekly "long" runs. Let's face it, runs aren't really long till you hit the 20+ mile mark. Going to build up slowly & hopefully get to were a 25+ mile run doesn't wreck me.

Today got in a solid 12. Saw a very skinny fox running down the road in the industrial park near my house. Quite a few people on the Frisco trail.Including an old man riding his bike, holding a soft sided cooler, with his helmet dangling from his handlebars. Just shook my head at him.

On the way back it was getting warm so I stopped & dunked my head in the fountain of one of the local limo factories. Very refreshing though I've had water in my ear ever since.
Last mile wasn't so great as both my hamstrings tightened up on me.

Spent the afternoon napping. 4 hrs to be exact. Don't feel guilty since I have to work tonight.

ScottyDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08141316754281775282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13191622.post-56088996517641538832012-07-13T03:04:00.001-04:002012-07-13T03:04:49.169-04:00Hills & wild dreams

My vacation in Colorado showed me one thing. I don't run enough hills.

There is a 5k that's starts from Mia's school with the motto I survived the hill. Last year it was my downfall in the race. This year I'm taking a new approach.

I made the hill into a Strava segment(ran it 11x since 7/2). Hopefully by October come race time I'll have covered the .2 mile segment a few hundred times. Surely running it so much will have added benifits like making me better at running hills fast.

Last year the race was won in 18:05. I was 3rd in 19:33(had almost 2 months off prior thanks to my back). I figure to win it 17:30 this year. Pretty quick for a race that goes up the whole 2nd half. If I can run 17:30(a min faster than I've run this year& on a flat course) by mid October surely I can run sub 17 at Turkey Trot. Probably not but I can dream lol.

Not a great night run by any stretch of the imagination. This week has been one of those blah weeks training wise. Managed a run every day but none have been worth a crap. Looking at my Garmin Connect calendar shows June was a horrible month. Then I finished it off with a 15 hr week in Colorado. That was 2 weeks ago. Last week was super hot & didn't get much of anything done. Thinking all that time at altitude followed by an off week has gotten me into my current funk. Going to try & train my way out of it.ScottyDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08141316754281775282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13191622.post-629783271707576902012-07-05T01:47:00.001-04:002012-07-05T01:47:10.309-04:00Evolution of the F1 Car in 60 seconds

Sharing video Evolution of the F1 Car

Starting July 1st I start a new work schedule :( no more 4 on 4 off. But no more 12 hr+ shifts either. I'll be semi normal working 5 8hr shifts; as normal as working 3rd shift can be.

My point was/is if I ride to work 5 days/week that's 14ish miles a day. 22 days(without OT which there will be) gives me (hold on while I get my calculator out) 308 miles. 500 / 31 = 16.13ish/day. 500 - 308 = 192 miles.Crap this might be harder than I thought. Ok 31 - 22 = 9 days. 192 / 9 = 21.33ish. (Maybe all bike mileage isn't cheating).

Anyway I'm giving it a go. Guess I'll need to get my road bike out of moth balls. Or I could count running miles too...

I found out the hard way by having it hang at 99% like everyone else. I was doing a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04 when I got struck. There is a work around out there, but it looks like DropBox fixed the bug. Found this link on the DropBox forums a bit ago. The 64 bit version worked for me, haven't tested the 32 bit yet.
Got out at 6am to beat the heat. Amber was out at 5am. Left her a note to turn coffee pot on for me.
You could tell the high today is going to be a 100+ by amount of traffic on Rutlidge-Wilson Greenway. More 5 or 6 at 6am is like rush hour in a big city on that trail. Especially since I could run that trail 6 days in a row and not see 6 people. High temps are predicted to be stupid high for a long while, guess I should get used to the company.
ScottyDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08141316754281775282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13191622.post-17190274750757204762012-06-26T20:17:00.002-04:002012-06-26T20:17:52.012-04:00Garmin Ubuntu plugin updateThe Garmin plugin I found for Linux Ubuntu 11.10 works with Ubuntu 12.04. An added benefit is it works with Chrome now where it didn't for me in 11.10. There is a bug in Garmin connect that doesn't allow you to add notes in calendar while using Firefox. Plus I'm a Chrome man.
The actual trail is only 1.6 1 way if you take the real trail. Easy enough for everyone. I did have to carry Mia on my back for the last mile on the return. Extra workout bonus.

Were back from CO and just starting to go through all the pics. After I got back from running to Lily Pad and showed everyone my photos they wanted to hike in. The actual trail is only 1.6 1 way if you take the real trail. Easy enough for everyone.ScottyDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08141316754281775282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13191622.post-2844247814129282412012-06-22T09:46:00.000-04:002012-06-22T09:46:02.835-04:00Mt. Amber &I hiked 4ish 14'ers yesterday. 4ish because Cameron
isn't exactly considered a 14'er since its saddle isn't far enough away
from Lincoln. Also the summit of Bross is closed to the public. The
bypass trail takes you within 200m of the summit so we'll count it. It was 34 when we started out at 6:30am , 72 when we finished at 12:00. 5:30 hrs round trip. We even ran the saddle between Lincoln & Bross, mostly to stay warm. It was windy & freezing. Other than that it never was really cold.

Closed. Saw a guy in a truck on the mining road up to Lincoln. Later on we saw a guy poach Bross' summit. Not sure if it was a coincidence or not but as soon as he got onto the top two motorcycles hauled ass up the mining road & the guy poaching sprinted off the summit down the trail. I read a few accounts online that this is the mining company enforcing no trespassing. Not sure since it looked like the guys on motorcycles were taking pictures, but they were a way off so hard to say. We decided the bypass trail was good enough for us.
Rick and Debbie will be here in a couple hours. We then have to kill some time before we can check into base camp for the week.
Woke up really sore from my trail run yesterday. Not sure if I'll do a short trail run or a bike path run. Hopefully tomorrow I can get the mtb out.
Almost 3k Elevation gain. Used my Father's Day present Fuel Belt. Only took 2 of the 4 bottles. If I wasn't an idiot I would have taken all 4 and made the final mile to the 12,500' summit. Oh well still a hell of a workout, 2 hrs at 150 avg HR is a good day.
