Good Friday Update

Its been awhile since I've posted so I figure I'd better update. Last week took a rest week after two straight weekends of MTB racing. My body took a beating as well as my Kona. Getting old is not conducive to MTB racing.

I also started my new job last week. Well Kinda of. Part of my severance stipulation was I had to work three days @ the old place & two @ the new. This week it was the reverse; two @ the new & two @ the old. I got a free pass thanks to the holiday so all ties are now done with the old defunct company(I hope). I'll be making less money but the commute is a little shorter & the place is climate controlled & fairly clean. A real selling point bonus for a guy in maintenance. It's nice not to have to dress in all my Carhartt's to stay warm & it will be even nicer not to sweat my ass off all summer.

I got the first mow of the season in last Monday. It has begun my seasonal fight with the weed whacker. Technically I didn't weed whack last week but if history shows anything I'll have to fight the weed whacker all season. To make things even more interesting I'm going to put out a garden this year too. Hopefully the last freeze is done & I'll get it going this Saturday. Just what I need more yard work. Yeah! Actually I'm pretty excited about fresh home grown veggies.

Training: A recovery week means FTP test this week. Got that out of the way on Tuesday. One whole watt increase. I know massive but a watt is a watt. Wanted to get in a nice ride today but the weather isn't going to cooperate so it looks like more trainer time. No racing this week. Next week hopefully will be another MTB race in Neosho @ the Tour de Tick. Then another week or two off & off to the Syllamo Revenge. A 50 mile MTB race isn't too bright but I got given a free entry so its hard to turn down. Plus I already got my first stupid move of the year out by racing in the mud & snow two weeks ago so its open season on stupid Scott tricks.

A Happy Belated BDay

After a whirlwind weekend I'm still trying to catch my breath. Friday was Mia's second Birthday or as she says: "Happy Birthday you you." Saturday was Amber's Birthday (age left out). Saturday night we went out for dinner on what will be our last night out as a family till Mia is 16. Let's put it this way, I don't recommend going out with a toddler who has hit the terrible two's. Sunday we had a party for the girl's. Lots of Dora the Explorer cake, balloons, & Dora related gifts. Throw in riding to work all week(4x), mowing(twice), a hard Saturday ride, weed eating, power washing the deck, too much sun, & I was ready for bed at about 3:30 Sunday afternoon. I'm still not woke up this AM after a ride to work & half a pot of coffee. I'll post pics tonight as soon as I round them all up. Long week ahead with Memorial Day Weekend. I had planned on racing but it sounds like a trip to the lake will be in order instead. Maybe I'll get in a 6.5 hour ride on Saturday instead.

The weather is killing me

The weather is really putting a crimp in the finishing of the deck. Every night this week that I've attempted to work on it its rained or I've had something else going on. I figured I'd get up this AM & knock it out in a few hours & spend the rest of the afternoon enjoying the fruits of my labors. Instead I woke up to this:
Crap! On to plan B. Cut as much wood in the garage as I can & work on the weed eater. I'm sitting here now waiting for the compressor to fill up so I can use my air tools. Once again I'll strip the weed eater down & rebuild it. I've said it before I won't let it beat me. Hopefully by the end of the weekend I can have the deck finished.

This past week I've taken a small hiatus from my 3 day a week training plan. Got to rest up & all. When the deck is off my plate I'm going to try & get some miles in. Cross is only 4 months away.

My Weed Whacker

I had planned on blogging daily this week but several things have piled up this week & I'd lost enough sleep that yesterday I resorted to plan B & slept 12 hours so no mindless dribble yesterday. I hope everyone was able to entertain themselves with the comments in my absence. I've not ridden once this week & have no plans to do so in the immediate future its too hot & my legs are crap right now anyway. I hate my weed whacker. Not just the tool itself but also the act of using it. It never fails I spend more time fixing it that actually using it. I have stripped it completely down & rebuilt almost everything that can be rebuilt. I've spent enough on it that I could have bought a new weed whacker, but what fun would that be. The damn thing pisses me off so bad I'm not going to give it the satisfaction of beating me. I have some mechanical ability so I have been able to keep it out of the scrap heap for several years now. Eventually I will set it on fire & put it out with a hammer but not until I have shown it who is boss! Luckily Sears has an excellent part website with blowout diagrams to aid in my ongoing frustration. Come to think of it I hate my leaf blower for the same reason.
