My Workspace

Here you go Mike a run down of my "garage bike shop". I have just about every thing do do what a bike shop can. Eventually I plan on adding frame tools & facing tools to my arsenal. The one thing I would add more of is outlets. My garage lacks them in a big way but I'm working on them.

One day I'm going to add a drill press & a mini lathe/mill combo. If I had one of these I'd never need to buy small parts again, I'd just make them. I haven't bought a headset spacer in awhile. For that matter I made my own SS conversion kits. The possibilities are endless.

To save space I made a slide show with captions to show how I have everything set up. I can work on just about anything here.

  3. Pretty inspiring,,,the post and your set up, including that art piece at the top. Someone should have won and award for that.
Lots of labeling. Lighting muy importante. I got the grinder, compressor with air tools, pegboard and hooks wheel hooks, heavy duty ass bench, angle irons and other bar stock, this is all out in the garage comprimising the current set up for auto work but what I want to do I move it inside down in the basement in front of a window that has a lovely view of out back. Outlets, as usual are problematic. I have a halogen track light I will use for task lighting. The carpet is a good idea...not just for catching errant parts but my back suffers greatly after only a short time standing on concrete.
I really need to do this so I can be more independent of the shop. Also keeping little spare parts on hand cuts down on emissions and gasoline costs.
Littlle fishing lure organizers would be nice. Don't got a big rolling toolbox but I don' think I need one. I'll keep all my bigger tools out in the garage.
I do have one thing I bet you don't have though. A box of 100 tube patches and a can of glue.
Thanks for taking the time. Now I just need to follow through.

Take all that Tyvek you got there and do this: http://www.elevengear.us/11g.html

  4. that jacket is a good idea.

I do need to get the box of 100 patches. I have a grocery bag full of old tubes that need patching. Patching saves on the landfill too. Very green of you Mike. LBS need to recycle them more. I'm not sure any do, though I may be wrong.

Roll around is a bit much but have it because of the profession I'm in.

Trust me on the spare parts, they can be a life saver. I work on my bike at odd times usually when the LBS is closed. Saves on the frustration.

  5. Mmmmmm, Stevie like! As always, very cool, I have tool envy. I think I have five bike specific tools and of course...a bottle opener!

Hell open your own repair shop!

  6. What's really far out about the patches is that I am on my second box. I got my first one 4 years ago. People enjoy making fun of you if you decide to patch them. I guess it makes them feel better about their own behavior.
I missed the sonic booms! I told myself not to forget cause I planned on riding outside today but decided to do intensity inside at the last minute which led my weak mind astray hence.

I have donated more tubes to the park board over the years, they use them around the lip of trash cans to hold the bags in, then both of you have patched...So take that...CMac
